6.5 hours of “in-yard” training: Training on vehicle inspection activities, including daily maintenance checks, air brake inspections, and more.

Student Eligibility and Application Process

To qualify, drivers must:

1. Possess a valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s licence.

2. Have held an Alberta Class 3 licence or an equivalent from another Canadian province for a minimum of two years. If the two years of experience were obtained with a Class 3 equivalent from another province, drivers must submit a driver’s abstract from that jurisdiction.

3. Have at least two years of work experience operating a single motor vehicle with three or more axles. To verify this experience, drivers can provide one of the following:

   • A signed letter from an employer confirming at least two years of experience operating a single motor vehicle with three or more axles, including the employer’s contact information.

   • A daily logbook for a two-year period that complies with the Drivers’ Hours of Service Regulation or the Government of Canada’s Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations.

   • For self-employed individuals: A signed letter from customers or suppliers stating that you operate a vehicle with three or more axles to provide services, with proof of service for at least two years. This letter must also include contact information for the customers or suppliers.

Please note: Approval from Alberta Transportation is required after submitting the necessary documentation before registering for Class 1 E&E at Skyway Driving School.
